In Conclusion:

Big Question:
How does project-based learning enhance student engagement and academic performance?

My Answer:
The previous courses’ artifacts have assisted me with coming to the conclusion that project-based learning enhances student engagement and academic performance. Through the creation (ECI 546 and ECI 541), participation (ECI 524) and research (ECI 508) of project-based learning it is evident that students are more engaged. Project-based learning allows for students to become critical and independent thinkers, which results in students becoming responsible for their own learning. Since students are responsible for their own learning, their ability to apply, transfer and retain information increases.  Therefore, project-based learning increases students’ academic performance.

How has my identity evolved from my work?
My journey though the New Literacies and Global Learning program has allowed me to further develop my educational philosophy and pedagogy. Through my creative synthesis focus on project-based learning I have been able to better understand this teaching method and its benefits it presents when implemented in a classroom environment.
